about

A collection of older recordings from 2013-2016, before I started really playing in public... Different guitars, effects, and recording techniques. Mostly recorded in the spare room (Pad's Room) of my old house on East State Street.

"Pierced" was my attempt at a Spacemen 3 song, I recorded this onto a Tascam four track cassette recorder. "Three chords good, two chords better, one chord best." - Sonic Boom / "One chord is fine. Two chords is pushing it. Three chords and you're into jazz." - Lou Reed

"Emmy Lou" was named after the character in Neil Young's "Powderfinger" who was taken away by the river.

"Trucked" is an edited version of a three-part suite "How Do You Know How Far Your Truck Can Go / Until You Drive Into the Sky / Truck Part 3". At the time I was really into making up cheesy country song lyrics...maybe one day I'll compose music for "Daddy, Are There Tractors in Heaven?"

"In Sink" was recorded in LSU's HopKins Black Box and uses a sample from '90's hit "I Want You Back".

"Pink to Blue" was recorded for an installation created by Jackie Rawls as part of her MFA program in Digital Arts at Tulane University. This piece accompanied a video art piece she created with a video synthesizer. Previously, Jackie and I had collaborated on an improvised A/V installation piece called "Wish" that premiered at LSU.

The photo was taken by Dr. Ruth Bowman during a performance of Dr. John LeBret's "On A Snowy Evening" in LSU's HopKins Black Box. I got to spend a lot of time with John during the last semester of my undergrad, and I performed a cover of Sonic Youth's "Schizophrenia" alongside an improvised piece for a final project in his class on archives and memory. He asked me to design sound for two segments during "Snowy", which got me started performing publicly. John passed away a few months after the premiere of "Snowy" and is a dearly missed member of our Performance Studies community.
